group of 11 Guatemalan women with children who received micro loan

NECI’s latest contribution to KIVA supports a small group of Maya K’iche women in Guatemala who have requested their first micro-finance loan.

This group of traditional Mayan women work hard at their businesses so that they can provide a better life for their children and send them to school. They realize the importance of education though they themselves only have an elementary school education. They will use the loan in their bakeries, traditional textile businesses, pig farms, and small restaurants.

As part of this program, they also receive education on essential topics like finance, nutrition, health, hygiene, and how to empower themselves.

Here is an uplifting story on the powerful impact one KIVA micro loan had on a family impacted by war and exile.
